Govt Employees Given Deadline to Obtain Driving Licenses

ISLAMABAD, September 18, 2025 – The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has launched a special campaign directing all government employees to secure valid driving licenses before September 26, 2025. Officials have made it clear: after this deadline, strict legal action will be taken against any government worker found driving without a license.

Special Campaign for Driving License Issuance

The campaign, which began on September 17, will continue until September 26. To facilitate employees:

  • Traffic offices across Islamabad are prioritizing license applications.

  • Mobile facilitation vans have been deployed to provide on-the-spot services.

  • Employees can apply for both car and motorcycle licenses under this drive.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun said the initiative was launched after authorities discovered that many staff members at Secretariat Blocks were driving vehicles without licenses.

Accountability Starts with Government Employees

According to the CTO, enforcing road safety laws requires accountability at every level:

“Government employees must lead by example. Before we apply strict rules on the general public, compliance should begin with state workers themselves,” he emphasized.

Concerns Raised by Employees

While the initiative has been widely acknowledged as necessary, many government workers expressed concerns over the short timeframe:

  • Hassan Mahmood, a federal employee, said: “Thousands of workers across the capital need licenses. It’s unrealistic to manage all applications in just nine days.”

  • Another employee, Nadeem, pointed out long waiting lines at licensing offices and questioned how authorities plan to complete the task on time.

No Exceptions After Deadline

Despite concerns, the ITP has warned that no extensions or exceptions will be granted. From September 27 onwards, any government employee caught driving without a valid license will face legal action and penalties.

The CTO urged employees to act quickly, use mobile facilitation services, and avoid last-minute delays.

Key Takeaways

  • Deadline: September 26, 2025.
