ISLAMABAD (September 19, 2025) – The federal government has introduced an important update for Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries. From now on, payments under BISP can be withdrawn directly from any commercial bank, but recipients will be charged a small bank transaction fee ranging between Rs100 and Rs200 per withdrawal.
This decision was confirmed during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Poverty Alleviation, chaired by Lamees Ali Talpur.
Key Update – Bank Charges for BISP Withdrawals
-
Withdrawal Charges: Rs100–200 per transaction
-
Where to Withdraw: Any commercial bank across Pakistan
-
No Middlemen: Agents will not be involved in the process
-
Banking Facilities: Accounts will allow deposits, transfers, and even remittances
The move is part of the government’s efforts to make BISP payments more transparent, secure, and accessible.
Progress on BISP Bank Accounts
Officials confirmed that 10 million new bank accounts have already been opened for beneficiaries. While these accounts remain inactive for now, they will be fully activated once payments are deposited.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan, these accounts will function like regular bank accounts, giving beneficiaries the same facilities as other citizens.
Challenges Ahead
BISP Chairperson acknowledged that digital payments remain a challenge, particularly for women in rural areas who face limited access to banking services.
Currently:
-
6 banks are already working with BISP.
-
Plans are underway to link all commercial banks via the One Link system.
-
The next phase of digital transactions is expected within six months.
Why This Matters
This update represents a major step toward financial inclusion in Pakistan:
-
Direct Access: Beneficiaries can withdraw from any ATM or branch.
-
Transparency: Eliminates the role of agents who previously charged extra fees.
-
Empowerment: Women and low-income households gain more control over their funds.
-
Digital Transition: Supports Pakistan’s move toward a cashless economy.
Final Thoughts
The introduction of bank charges for BISP withdrawals may appear as an additional cost for beneficiaries, but it also ensures a safer, transparent, and wider banking system. With 10 million accounts already created and digital integration on the way, this marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward financial empowerment for vulnerable families.
Beneficiaries are advised to stay updated through official BISP channels and prepare for the activation of their new accounts in the coming months.
